Christy B. Bishop is a partner and founder of Thompson & Bishop, and practices exclusively in the area of employment law, public records and litigation, with a focus on advocating employee rights. She is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals; she also is admitted as counsel pro hac vice in several cases in other states.

Bishop is a state certified specialist in Labor and Employment law. With her husband and partner, Dennis Thompson, she has won substantial trial and appellate verdicts and decisions. See Representative Cases. Bishop earned her J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law, graduating cum laude. As a law student she received six academic achievement awards, including the Arthur J. Goldberg Prize in Constitutional Law. Bishop passed the Ohio Bar Examination and Multistate Examination in the 95th percentile.

She is profiled in Marquis’ Who’s Who in America 2009, Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law 2009, and Who’s Who in American Women 2007- present. Bishop is the primary author of the firm’s appellate and substantive lower-case briefs. From 1996 to 2001, she also served as the founder, editor and writer of AkroNELA News, a newsletter of the Akron Employment Lawyers Association, which was published bi-annually and distributed to approximately 200 professors, judges, and lawyers practicing in the area of employment law

Bishop is an active member in a number of legal and non-profit organizations, including the National Employment Lawyers Association, Ohio Employment Lawyer’s Association, Akron Employment Lawyers Association (where she serves on the board as Secretary), Akron Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, Southern Poverty Law Center, SPLC Teaching Tolerance Campaign, People for the American Way, and American Civil Liberties Union, as well as other organizations.

Prior to joining the firm, Bishop earned her Master of Arts degree in Communication & Rhetoric at the University of Akron in 1991, and her B.A. in Communication & Argument, with a minor in Philosophy, in 1985. From 1981-1986, Bishop worked as a journalist and staff writer for various area newspapers and co-owned AdVantage, a free-lance advertising organization. In 1986 she helped launch Great Lakes Sailor, a monthly, full-color consumer magazine, where she served as Associate/Managing Editor. She also has taught courses at the University of Akron in editing, argumentation, public speaking and mass communication/media.
