It’s Not Just “a Job” – It’s Your Job
We are living in an unprecedented time of economic unrest and job uncertainty. Instead of a straight, steady, career path, we are facing curves, hills blocking the view, missing signposts of what’s to come in the future. All our hard work getting an education or investing our time, effort and hearts into a job – only to be cut or cheated in the long run by employer unfairness beyond our control.
Too many times, employers, courts, and politicians – and even other lawyers – don’t care about the impact on employees who are unfairly or unlawfully separated from their employment – especially if they’ve worked at the employer for any length of time.
Particularly in such tough economic times, the loss of a job can be devastating. It affects not only you, as the employee, but also your family, your friends, your finances, your future, and your own self-esteem. There’s a sense of loss of control. There is fear of what may come – or what may not come. You may be asking yourself questions like, “What did I do wrong?” “How can they get away with that?” “Where can I go from here?” And so on.
Our Firm Can Help
At Thompson & Bishop we understand the situation and can help provide a solution. Since 1992 we have fought for persons and employees harmed by corporate and government wrongdoers. We serve not only as lawyers and advisors, but also as counselors to help you through difficult and often life-altering changes in your circumstances. This is why our attorneys might suggest meeting with your family initially, as well as you.
Below is a list of services and ways in which we may be able to help. Please be sure to read About the Employment Legal Process. And, if you need something out of our area of expertise, we can help direct you to someone who can help.
You can get a feel for the broad types of cases we handle from the section Representative Cases on our website. We are highly experienced in federal and state litigation, multi-client cases, discriminatory treatment, impact in testing, administrative representation and appeals, civil service, EEOC, collective bargaining and grievances, and internal appeals.
Thompson & Bishop has particularly focused on representation of public employees and professional fire fighters. If you are a member of a municipal safety force and have questions or concerns about promotional testing and disparate impact, check out our Safety Forces Resources, featuring information about disparate impact litigation. In the future, look for our quarterly guest columnists, to be featured in our upcoming "Fireside Chat" section, and more.
